Charleston, South Carolina is a city that runs deep in the Ivory & Ash veins! It holds a special place in my heart – it was where my husband, Jason, proposed and later where we were married. Just one of the reasons I was so excited to bring in the most recent collection from Emily Kotarski Bridal, whose flagship store is located on King Street in the heart of downtown Charleston.
Who doesn’t love the cobblestone, the early springs, and gorgeous gardens that flow out of flower-filled backyards, spilling into the streets of that beautiful coastal city? I love the variety of architectural styles, old-world craftsmanship, the focus on preservation, and the unique color palettes.
Emily Kotarski Bridal’s work was most recently featured in People Magazine for having made former Bravo TV star of Southern Charm, Eliza Limestone’s wedding gown. Emily’s work has been featured several times in British Vogue, Dear Gray Magazine, Magnolia Rouge, and Martha Stewart Weddings, and Charleston Magazine.
Emily is known for her couture dresses, working closely with brides to bring their vision to life through custom, made to order gowns using fine European fabrics, laces, and embellishments.
“The delicate, couture details of placing the lace and embroidery and hand sewing it all down is my favorite part! The base of a gown is like a blank canvas and from there, I love when I am able to artfully place a beautiful French lace applique to turn the gown into a one-of-a-kind piece of art.”
Her process, skill, and devotion to her art are inspiring. With designs that embody the southern qualities of classic, elegant, and timeless craftsmanship as well as using fabrics that are lightweight and perfectly tailored, her wedding dresses are truly jaw-dropping. Her collections include hundreds of handmade gowns with a unique and versatile take on elegance for the modern bride.
Emily shares, “My main focus in business is that when it comes to bridal design, at the end of the day I want to make the gown that my clients love because I’m not the one walking down the aisle in it, they are!”
Her most recent collection, Brustrokes, makes us feel close to the ocean, with a uniquely warm, Charleston vibe. The airy fabrics catch in the wind, move, drape, fall with elegance. The Brushstrokes Collection will be available at Ivory & Ash from January 22 to February 8. Schedule your styling session to try on one of these beautiful dresses from the comfort of home!
THE BRUSHSTROKES COLLECTION
Brushstrokes, features gowns with names like Agate, Quartz, Frost, Stream, and Forest. Kotarski was inspired by “the textures and formations found in nature”.
A stand out element used in several dresses is a gorgeous lily of the valley fabric whose small white flowers cluster to create the perfect, weightless, fabric layer. Fabric treatments in this collection include hand-painted florals and applique. Add a billowing cape to any of these dresses for an instant transformation.
THE AGATE DRESS
Agate is a silk crepe gown with a layered tiered skirt. The flowing, transparent overlay blooms with tiny lily of the valley embroidery from cap sleeves to train reminiscent of the microcrystalline features in agate. With features that create a light and airy feel this makes an excellent choice for any outdoor wedding celebration.
THE MEADOW DRESS
Meadow is both soft and structured, the lightweight, breezy, hand-painted organza fabric catches in the wind. The corset bodice and strong off the shoulder line make it completely contemporary. White roses and foliage transform and elevate the a-line drape of the dress. The back finishes with a cord of covered buttons that hovers overs a low back.
THE BROOK DRESS
Brook is a gorgeous, shimmering beaded beauty. An a-line dress that hugs the figure perfectly. The beading design is like water flowing in rivulets down the low v-neck gown, pooling into a sweep train. An absolute stunning combination of art, class, and passion.
