Finding your dream wedding dress doesn’t mean sacrificing your concern for the environment or your unique style! Beginning your married journey with your partner should include a wedding day that reflects your shared values from the food served to the dress you walk down the aisle in.
It’s no secret that the second-largest polluter in the world is the fashion industry and we want to be part of changing that. From the beginning, Annie McGinty, founder of Ivory & Ash, has worked with many designers who are committed to socially responsible entrepreneurship.
Our wedding dresses are not part of the fast-fashion industry which is daily adding to the environmental havoc caused by synthetic dyes, microfibers, and waste accumulation not to mention the toll taken on those who eke out a meager living in garment factories under grueling conditions.
Thankfully, there are many people and companies in the fashion industry who are passionate about great style and protecting communities. We are constantly inspired by designers who are finding ways to create supply chains that are healthy for people and planet.
Our own in-house designers, Marylise, Rembo Styling, and Lea Ann Belter are seeking out eco-friendly and sustainable fabric alternatives that deliver gorgeous gowns without the environmental sacrifice.
Marylise: Shades of Wonder Collection
Belgium based designer, Marylise, sources fairly traded yarn from Peru to create a stunning crochet collection as part of their commitment to a better world for everyone. Because all of Marylise’s dresses are made to order, no overstock is produced. Additionally, our designers have their own ateliers where dresses are crafted by fairly paid, expert drapers, cutters, and finishers.
Rembo Styling: Earth Hero Collection
Rembo Styling, sister to Marylise, is also committed to the integration of sustainable practices with gorgeous designs. They share, “we review all aspects of the lifecycle of our product to analyze how our dresses can have less impact on the environment. Leading a business these days is inextricably linked with respect for people and nature.“
Rembo’s new Earth Hero Collection is a stunning ode to airy fabrics, lace, and contemporary design. The collection will be here in Feb 2021!
Astrid & Mercedes: The Confetti Collection
Lea Ann Belter recently launched the Confetti Collection under her Astrid & Mercedes line which features environmentally friendly eco mikado and eco faille fabrics.
From Lea Ann Belter’s website, “After years of searching for green fabrics, Lea-Ann finally found them, and it’s in the Confetti collection that they’re making their debut!”
Lea Ann describes her collection as “A celebration of life and love, the Confetti collection marries sass, sophistication, and an environmentally conscious sensibility. Bubbling with flirty details like sheer peek-a-boo panels and figure-hugging seams, at Confetti’s heart is our new eco faille and mikado. Their divine sheen and movement belie their origin—recycled plastic bottles!“
