Let’s Get Married! A Microwedding at The CoLab, Lakewood
An artsy and eclectic wedding celebration with two beautiful, stylish brides. The brides wanted wedding looks that were edgy and unique. The overall vibe was eclectic with a hint of street savvy. They wanted to be styled in a way that let their tattoos become part of the look and accentuate their styles. There was no fussiness and the day was pure fun! The shoot took place at The CoLab in Lakewood with a host of incredibly talented wedding professionals.
The CoLab is a fabulous space located in downtown Lakewood in a building rich in historical details. The open floor plan, perfectly weathered original hardwood floors, and tin ceiling all give play to the spectrum of natural light that pours in through the large storefront windows. Neutral finishes accommodate any vision. It is the perfect venue for an intimate wedding ceremony and reception. Gorgeous photography by Clare Elizabeth Photography.
Both the Bridget gown from Karen Willis Holmes and the Jonah bridal jumpsuit from Edith Élan are sexy with luxe, artful details. Bridget is a shapely dream the color of heavy cream but the crepe fabric means it’s super comfortable and light.
Shoulders and figure become statuesque in this gorgeous stretch crepe fabric. The high neckline, racer-back and cut-outs at the waist add drama and sexiness! The panelled skirt unfurls like water with flattering seamlines. It finishes with a dramatic train.
Offbeat brides need an offbeat cake. Shelby Costo of Sweet Costo created a Chocolate Sail Cake for the occasion. Sail cakes became popular in New Zealand and Australia a few years ago and have made their way to the states just in time for microweddings! Shelby shared that sail wedding cakes are a good way to have a small cake that still has visual impact. An 8” cake looks small but the sail adds interest and that extra height and presence a wedding cake commands!
The Sail cake is Shelby’s Tipsy Turtle cake. Cut through chocolate buttercream to expose whiskey infused caramel and toasted pecan layered into chocolate cake. Pair with any whiskey drink, like a bourbon smash for the perfect pairing.
Looking for something a little different and super versatile? A bridal jumpsuit is the perfect alternative for a bride that doesn’t want to wear a wedding dress! Jonah is a classic bridal jumpsuit from indie designer, Edith Élan. It features a sheer bloused, short sleeved topper that is embellished in pearls.
The front has a bateau neckline, a favorite cut of Megan Markle, and the back features a keyhole detail. Under the sheer pearl top is a strapless crepe paired with cropped wool pants that have a working button closure at the hem. The result is a sexy, perfectly curved fit.
